[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Good afternoon!
This week, MCA has reported that, even though the eating out market as a whole is suffering, branded restaurants are still growing their market share.
Now, I think that there’s room for everyone in the hospitality channel as long as you’ve got a good, solid offer that’s well presented and executed, with fantastic service and at a fair price, so seeing ANY part of the industry growing is a positive to me.
This news got me thinking about branded restaurants Vs pubs; what we’re discovering from recent research is that consumers are choosing different parts of our channel for different occasions on different days of the week and times of day- and even more so than in recent years.
For example, when asked, 66% of consumers told us that they would rather have “just drinks” of an evening in a pub rather than a branded restaurant.
But what about other occasions?
For breakfast, 53% of those questioned told us they would prefer to visit a branded restaurant. When it comes to lunch, that figure flips- 54% told us that they’d rather have their midday meal in a pub, and then, when we asked about dinner, pubs JUST pip restaurants at the post- 51% of those interviewed chose the pub. Interestingly, all results were close though, which tells us that the industry is as competitive as we think it is!
In grocery retail, we have worked with countless retailers who have been honing their “day part” offer- merchandising and promoting according to time of day, day of week, and from suppliers looking for ways to support them- but we rarely get these questions from the on trade- perhaps it’s time for us all to understand that consumers want to see a different offer from the same outlet depending on TOD/DOW?[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Meanwhile, an opportunity for any pub company tenants out there- I am looking for a few of you to come to an interview session in London on the 19th November- if you’re free, happy to chat on camera and partial to a free Amazon voucher, get in touch![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”5337″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]And another chance to see what we did in September…[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTNDaWZyYW1lJTIwd2lkdGglM0QlMjI1NjAlMjIlMjBoZWlnaHQlM0QlMjIzMTUlMjIlMjBzcmMlM0QlMjJodHRwcyUzQSUyRiUyRnd3dy55b3V0dWJlLmNvbSUyRmVtYmVkJTJGSjhYQWJIdGFvQmclMjIlMjBmcmFtZWJvcmRlciUzRCUyMjAlMjIlMjBhbGxvdyUzRCUyMmF1dG9wbGF5JTNCJTIwZW5jcnlwdGVkLW1lZGlhJTIyJTIwYWxsb3dmdWxsc2NyZWVuJTNFJTNDJTJGaWZyYW1lJTNF[/vc_raw_html][vc_column_text]A packed weekend is beginning tonight with dinner in Croydon (!) followed by a long cycle ride as part of my training for Vietnam 2019 tomorrow (learn about this crazy charity challenge I’ve taken on HERE!) and then down to Brighton for a lazy, most probably boozy lunch with friends on Sunday
Whatever you’re doing this weekend, make it count
