Research Manager
At KAM, we’re not just another research agency. We’re insight obsessives, industry cheerleaders, hospitality superfans and proud truth-tellers. We help some of the most exciting brands in hospitality, foodservice and retail understand their customers, spot opportunities, and make smarter commercial decisions.
Our mission? Deliver insight that actually means something. Not numbers for the sake of numbers. Not graphs that gather dust. We create clarity, confidence and commercially useful “aha!” moments that shape the future of UK hospitality.
And now… we’re hunting for a brilliant Research Manager to join the team and help us keep raising the bar.
What the role is all about
This is a pivotal role in our insight engine - you’ll be the person turning client questions and briefs into smart methodologies, robust analysis and impactful stories. You’ll lead the planning, delivery and interpretation of both qualitative and quantitative projects, working closely with our internal teams and our brilliant clients.
Think of yourself as the bridge between challenge and clarity. Between curiosity and commercial impact. Between data and decisions. You’ll bring methodological rigour, creative thinking, sector understanding and a genuine passion for turning “interesting” into important AND actionable.
You'll enjoy a fast-paced, fun working environment with a strong sense of autonomy, flexible working hours (part-time option considered) and a supportive, forward-thinking team
What you’ll do
Project leadership
- Work with our commercial and account teams to turn (often vague, sometimes intricate!) client questions and business concerns into crystal-clear research objectives and actionable study designs
- Build bespoke methodologies (surveys, qual, analytics, the works) that get to the heart of the challenge
- Own the full project lifecycle from methodological design, sampling, scripting, managing fieldwork, data quality, timelines, to budgets… the glamorous stuff AND the gritty stuff
- Work with Account Managers/Directors to create and present findings with clarity and confidence, giving clients the “story behind the stats” and recommendations they can actually use
- Ensure every project feels unmistakably KAM: rigorous, relevant and refreshingly real
- Help continually improve and evolve our tools, frameworks and internal processes
- Stay plugged into the latest thinking in research, hospitality, consumer behaviour and commercial insight
Insight Creation
- Dive deep into data, including quantitative analysis, segmentations, statistical testing, qualitative coding, narrative building
- Transform complexity into compelling decks, workshops and reports
- Create insight that doesn’t just inform but inspires change
- Contribute to whitepapers, reports and industry thought leadership alongside our Marketing & Content teams
What we’re looking for
Essential:
- 3+ years’ experience in a research or insight role (agency, consultancy or client-side)
- Confidence designing and delivering both qual and quant project
- Excellent quantitative skills: comfortable with statistical techniques, data manipulation (e.g., cross-tabs, regression, segmentation) and ability to interpret results.
- Excellent qualitative skills: ability to draw out themes, craft narratives, write compelling insight reports
- Strong project management capability - comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously, to deadline and budget
- Exceptional communication skills: presenting to clients, writing reports, translating findings into business-friendly insight
- Commercial mindset: you understand that research must deliver actionable business impact, not just numbers
- Interest in (and ideally experience of) the hospitality sector or consumer markets (especially food & drink, pubs/bars/restaurants) will allow you to hit the ground running
- Be flexible and open to change - in a growing business you’ll need to be proactive, adaptive and hands-on
- Comfortable working in a small business that makes a lot of noise within the industry
Desirable:
- Experience working in or for the hospitality, leisure or food & drink industries
- Experience mentoring junior staff or leading a small team
- Experience in thought leadership insight production (white-papers, industry reports) or event content
- Knowledge of UK hospitality market dynamics (pubs, bars, food & drink) and routes-to-market
What you’ll bring
- A degree or qualifications in a relevant field (e.g., Market Research, Statistics, Psychology, Sociology, Business) - or equivalent experience.
- A natural curiosity - you love finding the story
- High attention to detail (and a quiet rage for messy data)
- A collaborative, supportive approach - we’re a small team and we all muck in
- Strong organisational skills: you’ll prioritise effectively, keep stakeholders updated and ensure smooth project delivery
- A drive to develop: our business is growing fast; there’s room to shape the role and contribute to our research strategy
What we offer
- Competitive salary - £38-45k depending on experience. (Part-time option considered)
- Hybrid & flexible working - predominantly home-based with some travel into London for team meetings and industry events (approx 2 days a week.)
- A collaborative, creative culture with (allegedly) the best insight consultancy in the world*
- The chance to work with world-famous brands shaping the future of UK hospitality
