[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Good afternoon
So the budget was good for beer and spirits, bad for wine. Guess I’ll stick to G & T for the foreseeable…but what about the average Joe? We spoke to 500 UK consumers and asked them how much would prices need to increase in your local pub/bar for you to stop going? As expected, there was a wide range of answers, with different demographics having different levels of acceptance. But if we wanted to take an average to give us a steer as to when customers say ‘no’ to the Great British Pub, then 12% is the cut off. If the price of a drink is raised by that amount- that’s when customers tell us that they stop going out for a pint.
A combination of a missed train and it being a Friday night led recently, to me finding myself, for the first time in a long while, in a Wetherspoons.
I’ve always admired JDW as a business- they have a very definite offer, clearly targeted and well executed. Essentially, they know who they are and they know what their customers want- and they deliver.
I’ve blogged frequently about how pubs/bars need to be more “work-friendly”- I’ve lost count of the times I’ve chosen a local coffee shop over a pub because they have reliable wifi, plug sockets and offer table service as standard. JDW is another reliable “work space” for those of us who’s lives resemble that of a travelling salesman- and on my recent visit, I was introduced to the fact that they offer free refills of tea and coffee.
Not massively important to me, but what about the average customer? I asked our online community whether they would be more likely to visit their local pub if they offered free tea/coffee refills- 55% said they would; and 50% said that that would be the difference between them “working” in a pub/bar over a coffee shop.
And, finally – want to know what we did in October? Here’s your monthly TMAK….[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_raw_html]JTNDaWZyYW1lJTIwd2lkdGglM0QlMjI1NjAlMjIlMjBoZWlnaHQlM0QlMjIzMTUlMjIlMjBzcmMlM0QlMjJodHRwcyUzQSUyRiUyRnd3dy55b3V0dWJlLmNvbSUyRmVtYmVkJTJGVTNITWpVVFZQZUklMjIlMjBmcmFtZWJvcmRlciUzRCUyMjAlMjIlMjBhbGxvdyUzRCUyMmFjY2VsZXJvbWV0ZXIlM0IlMjBhdXRvcGxheSUzQiUyMGVuY3J5cHRlZC1tZWRpYSUzQiUyMGd5cm9zY29wZSUzQiUyMHBpY3R1cmUtaW4tcGljdHVyZSUyMiUyMGFsbG93ZnVsbHNjcmVlbiUzRSUzQyUyRmlmcmFtZSUzRQ==[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]This email comes to you courtesy of The Eurostar wifi; I’m on my way to Rotterdam for a meeting and have extended my trip for a couple of days to catch up with friends in The Hague. I’ll be sure to check out some pubs and bars whilst I’m here and I’ll report back next week… you’re welcome!
Have a great weekend
