Good morning!
When is a pub not a pub? When it’s a tea shop, of course.
At yesterday’s excellent Propel conference, several speakers reinforced my view that leisure channels are becoming increasingly blurred- mentioning specifically coffee shops like Starbucks who are creating an evening alcohol offer- exactly as we discussed in last week’s KAMera email. Always a step ahead here at KAM Media.
So this week, I wanted to share with you a pub that is encroaching on the Coffee Shops’ space; The Furlong in Tunstall opens up its garden shed throughout the summer, offering afternoon tea and cake to its locals, and so far, it’s been quite a hit!
I asked the members of KAMunity, our online community of pub and bar customers whether, if on offer, they would go to their local for “Afternoon Tea”. Once you take out the oddballs like me who don’t drink tea (which is pretty much seen as being a traitor to your own country, from what I can understand from people’s reactions when I tell them), it’s a split vote; 42% said yes, I’d love to and 39% said they wouldn’t consider it.
Personally, I’ll stick to the wine, but great to see pubs fighting to win back customers from other channels.
I’m off to India tomorrow for a well-deserved break, 10 days to explore a fascinating country in glorious sunshine. I am so excited, I’m like a kid on Christmas morning. But don’t worry, the laptop is coming with me, so next week’s KAMera email may well have an Indian theme- I will, of course be out there looking for innovative ideas to share with you! I give, and I give….
Enjoy your (cold) weekends!
